Jan Blachowicz will face one of the greatest grapplers on the planet tonight at UFC Sao Paulo. But, the light-heavyweight contender says he’ll be ready for “Jacare” Souza, if and when their fights hits the floor.

Blachowicz will face Souza in the main event of tonight’s card, in a bout which will be the latter’s first in the Octagon at 205. While talking about tonight’s match-up recently, Blachowicz had this to say about the renowned jiu-jitsu game of Souza (quote via MMA Fighting):

“If he finds a way to take me down, I’ll be ready for his jiu-jitsu. I’m also a black belt in jiu-jitsu, so I will not be afraid of his jiu-jitsu game. I would like to keep the fight on the feet and try to knock him out.

“MMA is not jiu-jitsu. MMA is not boxing. MMA is not wrestling. It’s a different kind of style of punching and wrestling and grappling on the ground. We will see. If the fight goes to the ground, I will try to submit him. I will try to control him on the ground and punch him in the face. I will be ready for his tricks.”

The 36-year-old Blachowicz (24-8) is coming off a knockout win over Luke Rockhold in July. The 39-year-old Souza (26-7), on the other hand, lost via decision to Jack Hermansson this past April.
