UFC Stockholm: Following Ilir Latifi’s Withdrawal, Volkan Oezdemir Hopes to Remove “Stain” From Record
By FCF Staff
Now that Volkan Oezdemir is no longer facing Ilir Latifi today at UFC Stockholm, “No Time” is eyeing a rematch with Dominick Reyes.
Oezdemir was scheduled to face Latifi in the co-main event of today’s card, but the latter withdrew on Friday due to a back injury. Following Latifi’s withdrawal, Oezdemir had this to say about the situation, and his wish to face Reyes next (quotes via MMA Junkie):
“I’m not going to go into details, but it’s what happened,” Oezdemir said. “It’s weight cut time and everything’s getting a little bit difficult, so he pulled his back and he wasn’t able to fight. Here I am. I’m ready to fight. I was hoping something would happen, a last-minute change, but it wasn’t meant to be, so I’m looking forward to the next one.”
“For me the one I really want to avenge the most is my last fight, Dominick Reyes, his win is a stain on my record so I want to make it right.”
Oezdemir faced Reyes in March and lost via a tightly contested, split decision.
