Vicente Luque extended his winning streak to six last night at UFC Uruguay, with a hard-fought win over Mike Perry, and “The Silent Assasin” has his sights set on a top-ranked welterweight next.

As most fans and observers predicted would be the case, the Perry – Luque bout was a thrilling war. After three rounds of action-packed action, Luque was awarded the victory via split decision.

After the bout, the surging welterweight was asked about his next bout while speaking with ESPN. Here’s what Luque had to say (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“I don’t know if I’m the most active, but I believe that I’m one of the most active welterweights right now,” Luque said. “A performance like that against a tough guy – Perry is not the kind of guy people want to fight. Nobody wants to fight with him, maybe because he’s not ranked right now and he’s super dangerous. I think it was the kind of fight for me to once more prove to everybody.

“I’m here to fight anyone, and if you really want to throw down with me, I’m going to throw down right back. I’m going to hurt you. I think I deserve a top-10 right now. I don’t see it any other way. I don’t know. maybe ‘Wonderboy.’ If he wants to fight at the end of the year, I think that’s possible for me. Just got to (put) some ice on the face, on the feet from the kicks, and then I’ll be good to go.”

Prior to Saturday’s bout, Luque was not ranked in the top 15 of the UFC’s 170 division. The 27-year-old’s record now stands at 17-6-1.
