Marvin Vettori didn’t know how he’d finished Karl Roberson, but according to the middleweight, he knew their UFC Vegas 2 fight wouldn’t go 15 minutes.

Vettori faced Roberson in the co-headliner of Saturday’s event, and he submitted the noted striker with a rear-naked-choke in round one. After the bout, the Italian fighter had this to say about what unfolded (quotes via MMA Junkie).

“I knew the fight would’ve gone this way,” Vettori said. “I didn’t know exactly if I was going to knock him out or submit him, but I knew he wasn’t ready to go all the way. I knew at one point he would’ve faded.”

The win moved Vettori’s overall record to 15-4-1, and the 26-year-old has now won three straight. While talking about his plans for the future after the win, Vettori said this.

“I’m not a guy who gives a lot of credit to rankings, but I know I have to go through those to get a title shot,” Vettori said. “It’s still a long road, and so many things have been going on. That’s why I’ve been ready at any time for so long. I’m on a mission, man. These guys don’t get it. I know, coronavirus, safety, this, and that – but I think differently.”

Currently Vettori is not ranked in the top 15 of the UFC’s middleweight ranks. Roberson, who had won two in a row prior to Saturday, now has a record of 9-3.
