During the opening minutes of the UFC Vegas 86 headliner on Saturday, it looked like Joe Pyfer was headed to his sixth straight win. But, Jack Hermansson had other ideas and proceeded to demonstrate why he’s been a contender in the UFC’s middleweight division for years.

In round one, Pyfer cracked Hermansson with stinging punches and bested the veteran in nearly every exchange. As the fight wore on, however, Hermansson pressured more and repeatedly tagged Pyfer with his jab. Hermansson was also able to take Pyfer down at one juncture and control the action from above for several minutes.

After five rounds, it seemed clear Hermansson would be awarded the upset victory and he was by all three judges. The bout marked the first time Pfyer had ever fought beyond three rounds.

With the loss, Pyfer’s record fell to 12-3, while Hermansson moved his to 24-8.
