UFC and WEC veteran John Alessio is the latest high profile fighter Bellator has added to its roster,  as the 33 year-old fighter has announced he’s signed a new contract with the promotion. Speaking via his Facebook account, Alessio stated:

I signed a contract!!!!!!!! ………………………………….I am now a BELLATOR MMA fighter, very excited for this new chapter in my fight career. Pumped to fight live on SPIKETV for all of you!!! I promise to always fight my heart out and do my best to put on a great show!!! Thanks to Bjorny Rebney for this opportunity.

Alessio has fought just once since he was released by the UFC last summer, following back-to-back unanimous decision losses to Shane Roller and Mark Bocek,  which was a no contest result while competing for Aggression FC in November. Alessio was accidentily poked in the eye by Dave Mazany and could not continue.

The Canadian lightweight had worked his way back to the UFC by putting together a 9-1 run.

According to a recent report by MMA Junkie.com, Bellator has confirmed it’s signed Alessio and the lightweight will compete in the promotion’s upcoming season this fall.

Alessio, who trains and resides in Las Vegas, currently holds a record of 34-16.
