UFC Vet Matt Riddle Announces Retirement

Riddle

By FCF Staff

Former UFC fighter and recent Bellator addition, Matt Riddle, has announced he’s retiring from MMA, after suffering an injury and having to withdraw from the promotion’s upcoming welterweight tourney.

Although Bellator has yet to make any announcement, the TUF 7 vet announced via Twitter:

Riddle was scheduled to fight Luis Melo Jr. at Bellator 100 on September 20th. The 27 year-old fighter hasn’t fought since UFC on FUEL TV 7 in February, when he worked his way to a split decision win over Che Mills. Riddle tested positive for marijuana following the event, however, and was released by the UFC. The bout was overturned and declared a no-contest.

The positive test was Riddle’s second in three fights, as he was also flagged for marijuana metabolites following his win over Chris Clements at UFC 149 (which was later overturned). Riddle is legally licensed medical marijuana user.

Riddle finishes his career having posted a 7-3 record with 2 no contests. All 12 of his bouts took place under the UFC banner.
