Claude Patrick continues to recover from the injury that kept him sidelined for much of 2012 and so far in 2013, however, the UFC vet has begun considering his options for when he’ll return and even what division.

Patrick has informed Full Contact Fighter that he’s “building back at a steady pace” and that he hopes to “be back in business” by September or October. The 32 year-old, who traditionally does not offer details regarding the nature of his injuries, hasn’t fought since December, 2011, when he lost by split decision to Brian Ebersole.

In addition, Patrick has revealed that he’s considering moving to lightweight when he returns to the Octagon, though no decision has been made.

Prior to facing Ebersole, the Mississauga fighter had won 13 straight fights, which included Octagon wins over Ricardo Funch, James Wilks and Daniel Roberts.

When Patrick spoke with Full Contact Fighter in February, about his ongoing recovery, the IFL vet stated:

“You can come back thinking ‘oh, I’m ready to go, I’m ready to go’, and hurt yourself worse, mess up your whole career,” noted Patrick. “I’m not one of those dummies. If I’ve been out this long already, it doesn’t make any sense at all rushing back; I just have to be sure I’m healthy, in good shape and have my timing back.”

“Every injury is serious, so it’s better to think about the positive side of things,” said Patrick, who was supposed to compete at UFC 149 last July. “It was two weeks before my fight with James Head was supposed to happen in Calgary…I got hurt. It really sucked. Ten weeks of training camp already and then you get hurt. To get hurt your last hard week is a disaster.”
