Recently there’s been no shortage of talk regarding who Israel Adesanya will fight next, and it looks like the star will face new, light heavyweight champ Jan Blachowicz.

After Adesanya defended the middleweight title at UFC 253 by stopping Paulo Costa, he said he wanted to face Jared Cannonier, provided the contender beat Rober Whittaker at UFC 254. The latter, however, won the October 24th bout via decision.

Following the event, Whittaker reported that while he wants to rematch Adesanya at some point, he was okay if the champ took another bout next.

While speaking to the media after UFC Vegas 12 on Saturday, UFC President Dana White confirmed that the UFC is planning to have Adesanya fight Blachowicz next (quote via MMA Junkie).

“Listen, when the fight was over on ‘Fight Island,’ the last fight (at UFC 254), I was like, ‘I’m going to have to sit down with this kid (Adesanya) and convince him on why he needs to fight Whittaker,’” White said. “Whittaker comes out and says he doesn’t want to fight him – craziest (expletive) I’ve ever seen. Yeah, there’s no arguing with Israel now. I thought Whittaker deserved the shot and Whittaker doesn’t want it, so yeah, we’ll let him do it.”

Blachowicz won the light heavyweight title at UFC 253 by taking out Dominick Reyes. The title was vacated by Jon Jones earlier this year, as ‘Bones’ is planning a run at heavyweight.
