NEW FATHERS
September and October were marked by new conquests in some great Brazilian fighters lives. Hugo Duarte (Luta-Livre), Roberto Leitão (Ruas Vale-Tudo), Clayton Mangueira (Budokan) and Rodrigo Minotauro (Brazilian Top Team) all became fathers. Fortunately for their opponents, only Leitão had a boy.

ZÈ MARIO TEACHING
After a long time only teaching in Porto Alegre (southern part of Brazil), Zè Mario Sperry finally decided to come back to the land of his birth. Sperry has just open a new academy in Copacabana associated with black belt Marcelo Tetel. Last week, both started Jiu-Jitsu and submission (without gi) classes in the amazing Gold Fighters Academy in Copacabana (rua Francisco Sà 36).

MECCA III CONFIRMED
Rudimar has just confirmed the third edition of his Mecca event. It will take place on Ginàsio do Cìrculo Militar in Curitiba on November 12. Only 3 fights are confirmed so far:
Assuèrio (Chuteboxe) vs. The Pedro (Luta-Livre – RJ)
Andersom (Chuteboxe) vs. Morango (Gracie – RJ)
Ninja (Chuteboxe) vs. Claudinho (Luta-Livre – RJ)

ELECTIONS
The black belts were not so lucky in the Brazilian elections for Councillor. In Curitiba, Paranà Rudimar Fedrigo, (Pelè and Vanderlei Silva’s instructor), was voted sixth in his party, but only four were elected. In Rio de Janeiro, Andrè Pederneiras, who needed 8,000 votes to be elected, only got 4,000. Josè Moraes was voted 11th, being elected with 28,000 votes.

From the event’s promoter:

Super Brawl, Extreme Challenge
to battle in Honolulu

While promoters often seem to have trouble getting along, T.Jay Thompson of Future Brawl and Monte Cox of Extreme Challenge are exceptions to the rule.
On Nov. 14, the two will co-promote the Xtreme Showdown at the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu. The event will pit up-and-coming stars from the two events against each other.
"We’ve been friends for quite a few years now, and have gone to each others shows and shared secrets and ways to be successful," Thompson said. "We’ve talked about doing another show together for some time and basically, I made a phone call and worked everything out in a couple minutes."
The main event of the 10-bout card will feature Niko Vitale of Team SWAT against Mark Hughes of Miletich Martial Arts. Both fighters have done well in the middleweight division and are looking to move up to bigger events, like the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
"This show will feature at least 10 guys who have fared very well in their respective events and are looking for more exposure and a chance to step up to bigger shows," Cox said. "Unless you’re a real diehard fan, you might not know some of the names… but you will be hearing the names very soon, we have some young, really talented guys in the show."
Other featured bouts include John Allessio (Shark Tank) against Joe Doerksen (Team Extreme). Allessio fought Pat Miletich for the UFC lightweight title, while Doerksen’s only losses are to UFC stars Matt Hughes and Eugene Jackson.
Josh Hall (Shark Tank) will face Rick Gravesen (Miletich Martial Arts). Hall finished 4th in the Olympic Trials in Greco Roman wrestling, while Gravesen has almost 30 fights around the Midwest.
Also… John Chrisostomo (GU Hawaii) will face Jason Black (Miletich Martial Arts) and Victor Hunsaker (Shark Tank) will battle Drew Irion (Miletich Martial Arts).
"This show has a lot of interesting matchups," Thompson said. "We’re going to keep a team score and at the end of the night, one promoter is going to owe the other promoter something big… you know, like politicians do for the World Series."
The bet between promoters hasn’t been made yet, but Cox said it will probably involve a tractor and a surf board.
"You know, I really need a surf board… most people don’t know it, but Iowa is among the top surfing states in the mainland," Cox said. "I admit we don’t have the big waves that Hawaii has, but we have some big ponds."
The show will start at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $25 in advance for general admission ($29 day of show) and $50 for ringside.
