Dustin Poirier continues to be a top ten ranked featherweight, thanks in part to recent wins over Erik Koch and Diego Brandao, and now the fighter is targeting the top of the division.

Poirier (15-3), who continues to prepare for an April 16th scrap with Akira Corassani, is currently ranked #6 in the UFC’s 145 pound division. The 25 year-old fighter recently spoke to UFC.com about the upcoming bout, and here is some of what he had to say about his current goals:

“I don’t feel like I’m trying to prove that I’m a good fighter – now I’m trying to show you improvements and show you new stuff,” said Poirier, who defeated Koch and Brandao, after being decisioned by top contender Cub Swanson last February. “This is going to be my 10th fight in the UFC, so I’m just trying to show the growth and maturity I’ve developed from being around the greatest guys in the world.”

“I’ve proven that I belong here – now it’s about proving I’m a top three guy, a top contender and then as a champion.”

Corassani (12-3) has won three straight, official, UFC bouts now after competing on TUF 14.
