Urijah Faber Wishes Dominick Cruz “Speedy Recovery,” Discusses Possibility of Interim Title

By FCF Staff

With UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz now on the sidelines due to a reported torn ACL, which has forced the renowned fighter to withdrawal from his July 7th bout with Urijah Faber, the latter has begun discussing the possibility of an interim title.

In a recently released video, Faber has begun campaigning for an interim title fight, citing the fact that well over a year could expire between Cruz’s last title defence and when he returns from the injury.

The renowned fighter last competed at UFC Live 6 in October, and worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Demetrious Johnson.

Faber named Renan Barao, Michael McDonald and Ivan Menjivar as the other bantamweights who he believes are amongst the division’s best.

Menjivar and Barao are already scheduled to fight on the July 7th, UFC 148 card, while McDonald is coming off a highlight reel knockout of Miguel Torres at UFC 145 last month.

The former WEC featherweight champ also relayed his sympathies to Cruz in the video, despite their ongoing rivalry, which dates back to 2007 when Faber became the first and only man to defeat Cruz.

Cruz avenged the loss in July, 2011 with a unanimous decision win at UFC 132. The two fighters have been coaching opposite one another in the latest season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

Faber (26-5) is coming off a second round, submission victory via guillotine choke over Brian Bowles in November.
