Vitor Belfort Calls Out Chris Weidman, Undefeated Fighter Says Sights Remain On Anderson Silva

By FCF Staff

There has been no shortage of discussion regarding the UFC middleweight title picture recently, and today, former challenger Vitor Belfort inserted himself into the mix by calling out rising star Chris Weidman.

Speaking via his official Twitter account, Belfort revealed that he has asked to fight the undefeated fighter, who recently was cited by UFC President Dana White as the current title shot leader.

Guys I spoke to joe silva and ask to fight with the top contender #weidman here in brasil so I think this is the fight that will credence me to a title fight so that is what happened.

I want the belt but I am not desperate I think weidman is the next for the belt, but Anderson silva deserve to see who is next .So let`s make this fight the next #contender belfort vs weidman the next contender for #andersonsilva

Weidman responded to the accomplished vet by tweeting:

Love ya @vitorbelfort but you already had your shot at the belt and Im sure u will have another in the future.Rt now is my time though @ufc

Belfort was scheduled to fight rival TUF Brasil coach Wanderlei Silva at UFC 147 in June, but a hand injured forced the former light-heavyweight champ to withdraw.

The 35 year-old-fighter is coming off back-to-back wins over Yoshihiro Akiyama and Anthony Johnson, after being knocked out by Anderson Silva in February, 2011.

Weidman is coming off an impressive, second round stoppage win over Mark Munoz on July 11th to extend his undefeated record to 9-0.
