Dana White and the UFC have been taking some heat for booking an interim title fight between heavyweights Derrick Lewis and Cyril Gane, and White has fired back at the critics.

Recently the UFC shocked many throughout the MMA world, when it was confirmed Lewis and Gane will fight for an interim title on August 7. The announcement wasn’t welcomed by everyone, including the current champ, Francis Ngannou.

Critics questioned why an interim belt has been put on the line, when Ngannou just won the belt back in March, by knocking out Stipe Miocic. Others also questioned the UFC’s decision to move forward with Lewis – Gane, rather than wait for Ngannou to fight later in the year.

But, while speaking to MMA Junkie’s John Morgan recently, White had this to say about the fight and the criticism it’s received.

“If anything, this will make the title fight even bigger when these guys fight,” White said. “It’ll be champion vs. champion and if Derrick Lewis wins, Derrick Lewis is the guy who beat him. Ciryl Gane has never fought him, and he’s undefeated, which means if he beats Derrick Lewis, the guy who beat Francis Ngannou, and he’s still undefeated going in against Francis Ngannou, that’s pretty f*cking exciting.

“So why doesn’t everybody just shut the f*ck up and let me do what I’ve been doing for the last 20 years? If you want to fight, I got fights every Saturday. If you don’t want to fight, no problem. Fly around the world, go on f*cking vacation, do whatever the hell you want to do, and when you’re ready to fight, we’ll be here.”

Lewis – Gane will headline UFC 265, which is expected to take place in Houston, Texas.
