Since it was announced that UFC heavyweight Frank Mir would fight Daniel Cormier under the Strikeforce banner in October, there has been considerable speculation as to whether more crossovers between the Zuffa properties will occur. According to the parent company’s co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta, however, the upcoming bout is going to be the exception rather than the norm.

Speaking to ESPN.com, Fertitta reportedly relayed that the upcoming match-up “is a one-time situation”, due to the fact that Cormier had one more bout on his contract with Strikeforce. Last year, Zuffa announced that the promotion was disbanding its heavyweight division, and many of Strikeforce’s top heavyweights were moved to the UFC.

Fertitta also confirmed that Cormier, who defeated Josh Barnett in May to win Strikeforce’s heavyweight Grand-Prix, will head to the UFC after facing Mir. Since transitioning into MMA in 2009, the former Olympic wrestler has won ten straight bouts.

The former UFC champion Mir (16-6) is coming off a TKO loss to current champ Junior dos Santos in May, which ended his three fight win streak.
