At Extreme Trials Event

CLINTON, Iowa — Two outstanding wrestlers captured division title Saturday at the Extreme Trials 2000 event held outside at the Pig Pen nightclub.
Steve Rusk, a former Div. III national runnerup and University of Illinois wrestler, captured the heavyweight division handily with a quick key lock submission and a ground & pound win in the finals. Rusk, 6-0 and 203, trains at the Miletich Martial Arts Center and has decided to give NHB fighting a chance.
John Paun, who trains with the U.S. Greco-Roman team, won two matches in the 10-fighter 150-under division, then got a default in the final when Brent Toon could not compete. Paun, who is from South Holland, Ill., shows good versatilty, winning by choke and ground & pound en route to the finals.
Tim Callahan, who trains at the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy (which produced Dave Menne), won three bouts, all by submission, to take the 170-under title. He bested Doug Kellar of Kingston, Ontario, in the final by guillotine at the 9:14 mark.
Dan Reints, also of the Miletich Academy, won the 210-under title with a pair of long victories. After opening with a 10-minute majority decision win, he edged Dan Anderson of Des Moines, Iowa, in the final by guillotine in overtime. The match lasted 10:33.
Jason Rigsby of Ottawa, Ill., won the 190-under division by default as nobody else entered the division. Rigsby entered the 210-under and won his first bout before losing to Reints in the semifinals.
The next Extreme Trials event is set for Sept. 16 in Springfield, Ill.
