By FCF Staff
Despite coming off back-to-back victories over noted welterweights Dan Hardy and more recently, Charlie Brenneman, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson has reportedly elected to move up to middleweight and will fight Vitor Belfort January 14th. The bout will be part of the UFC 142 card, which will take place in Brazil, however, no specific venue or location for the event has been announced.
While Johnson (10-3) has experienced some difficulties cutting to 170lbs. in the past, the physically imposing fighter hasn’t had any reported issues making the welterweight limit as of late. Aside from a submission loss to Josh Koscheck in November, 2009, Johnson has gone undefeated since July, 2008.
Belfort (20-9) is coming off a first round, stoppage of Yoshihiro Akiyama in August, after being knocked out by middleweight champion Anderson Silva in February. The Brazilian veteran is 4-1 in his last five fights.
The UFC 142 card will also feature featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who will look to defend his title against challenger Chad Mendes.
