Dricus Du Plessis has been in the headlines recently, after it was reported the UFC middleweight champ could be injured, and therefore, he won’t be an option for UFC 317. But, the South African star has released a statement, in which he’s shot down rumors he’s sidelined with an injury.

In recent weeks, there’s been speculation the UFC is hoping to have Du Plessis fight Khamzat Chimaev at the promotion’s June 28th, UFC 317 card. But, due to a recent report that the champ could be injured, talk about what fight could headline UFC 317 has spiked.

Via social media, however, Du Plessis reported he is not injured. The 31-year-old also alluded to not being in the mix for UFC 317 as well.

“[OK], so everyone had their opinions and rumors and stories about a shin break and injuries etc.

“I found it all very entertaining, unfortunately none of it is true myself and [UFC] already discussed a fight date and opponent, the June fight was never signed I did not pull out of any fight, I am the champion I know when I fight you as a contender just show up when we tell you to. Fight announcement coming soon stay tuned.”

Du Plessis (23-2) is coming off his second victory over Sean Strickland, which came via decision in February.
