Deiveson Figueiredo may not be sidelined as long as originally feared, immediately following his loss to Cory Sandhagen earlier this month.

Figueiredo faced Sandhagen in the headliner of the UFC’s May 3rd card, and incurred a knee injury during a grappling exchange, shortly before the fight’s final moments. Since the former flyweight champ was in visibly in severe pain, the initial consensus was Figueiredo would likely require surgery.

But, more recently, the fighter’s manager, Alex Davis, spoke with MMA Fighting.com. Davis confirmed that although Figueiredo suffered a tear in the anterolateral ligament in his knee, he will not require surgery. Davis also reported that the decorated fighter has started inquiring about his next bout.

The 37-year-old Figueiredo was coming off a decision loss to Petr Yan heading into the Sandhagen fight, and has gone 3 and 2 now, since moving up to bantamweight.
