After reporting his fighting career was likely over, immediately after his loss at UFC 315, Jose Aldo has confirmed he’s retiring.

The 38-year-old faced Aiemann Zahabi at the recent event, and following the thrilling and very competitive fight, all three judges awarded it to Zahabi. In hist post-fight, Octagon interview, Aldo reported the bout was likely his last.

More recently, via his Instagram account, the Brazilian confirmed he’s decided to start a new chapter in his life (translation via Instagram / MMA Junkie.com).

The cage has always been my place. The Struggle, My Life.Today, I end this cycle with my soul in peace.I’m not going back because I have already fulfilled my purpose — with blood, sweat, discipline and honor.Been years of totally focused and dedicated to this. Now it’s time to live and enjoy alongside my family, to help those who are starting and to inspire beyond the octagon. Thanks to those who walked with me.Happy for all I’ve achieved!

Following his unanimous decision loss to Merab Dvalishvili in 2022, Aldo (32-10) announced he was ending his MMA career, and proceeded to compete in two boxing bouts in 2023. After going 1-0-1 in those fights, the legend returned to the Octagon in 2024 and defeated Jonathan Martinez by unanimous decision.

For years, when Aldo ruled the WEC and then the UFC’s featherweight division, the Brazilian star was widely considered to be one of the best fighters on the planet.

Aldo eventually dropped down to bantamweight in 2019, and proceeded to go 4-5.
