Miesha Tate is “Not Making an Final Decisions” on Future, Following Latest Defeat
By FCF Staff
After incurring a loss at the UFC’s card earlier this month in Iowa, Miesha Tate is not prepared to make any definitive announcement regarding her fighting future.
The former bantamweight champ faced Yana Santos at the event, and lost the contest via unanimous decision. The defeat was Tate’s third in her last five fights.
More recently, the 38-year-old spoke posted a video statement via social media. While discussing her future, Tate made it clear that no decision has been made (quote via MMA Junkie.com).
“I am not making any final decisions. Remains to be seen whether I will fight again or not. I’m not going to clarify either one of those because I think there is no right or wrong answer.”
Tate’s loss to Santos marked the first time she had competed since December, 2023, when she submitted Julia Avila. Tate (20-10) also reflected on how she incurred a serious injury in the bout.
“I had my hooks in on her back, one of which was a bit shallow, and I really went to be very aggressive and try to force her from back to belly, belly down, and I ripped two if my ligaments, and I had to have reconstructive surgery. It was by far the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.“
In 2016, Tate announced she was retiring from competition, following a decision loss to Raquel Pennington. She returned to the UFC, however, in 2021.
