Mateusz Gamrot to Battle Charles Oliveira
By FCF Staff
Mateusz Gamrot was raising his hand to be the replacement opponent for Charles Oliveira at UFC Rio, and the lightweight contender got his wish.
Oliveira was originally booked to fight Rafael Fiziev at the October 11th event. But, recently Fiziev was forced out of the contest due to an undisclosed injury. Gamrot began campaigning for the opporunity, and the UFC has confirmed the new match-up.
Gamrot (25-3) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Ľudovít Klein in March, which followed a split decision loss to Dan Hooker last August. The Polish fighter has gone 4 and 1 in his last 5 bouts.
Oliveira (35-11), meanwhile, was knocked out by Ilia Topuria in his last bout, which took place in June. The Brazilian, former lightweight champ is 2 and 3 in his last 5 fights.
The UFC’s upcoming card will be hosted by the the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro.
