Alan Belcher Reports He’s “Okay” After Fight Ending Eye Poke
By FCF Staff
Alan Belcher is reporting that he’s “okay”, after his UFC 159 bout with Michael Bisping was brought to a halt in round three, following an accidental eye poke that cut the same eye he’s had surgically repaired before. Due to the fact Belcher could not continue Bisping was handed a technical unanimous decision win.
Belcher took to Twitter afterwards to update fans on his condition, and relayed:
I’m ok.. Just got back from e.r. 8 stitches in eyelid. Disappointed. To my real supporters, I’m sorry, thank you once again.
The cut was to Belcher’s right eye, which has required two surgeries in the past to repair a detached retina and was feared to be career threatening at the time.
The loss was Belcher’s second in a row, as the 29 year-old vet dropped a unanimous decision loss to Yushin Okami in December, which ended his four fight win streak. During the run Belcher scored wins over Jason MacDonald, Rousimar Palhares, Patrick Cote and Wilson Gouveia.
