Two of Bellator’s top bantamweights are returning to compete in its upcoming sixth season, as the promotion has confirmed that recent finalist Alexis Vila and semi-finalist Ed West will be part of its next tournament.
Vila (11-1) was one of Bellator’s breakout stars in 2011, as the former Olympic bronze medalist wrestler KO’d featherweight champ Joe Warren and earned a split decision over Marcos Galvao, before losing by unanimous decision to Eduardo Dantas in the finals.
West (17-6) scored a decision win over Luiz Alberto Nogueira, before losing by slit decision to the eventual tourney winner Dantas.
“I’d love to fight Dantas again,” West said in a press release from Bellator. “Either guy would be fun, but I’d love to get another shot at Dantas. I’d never look past this tournament, and I know the field is going to be really tough, but that fact is certainly present, and I’m ready to get started.”
Other confirmed participants for the bantamweight tourney include the aforementioned Galvao (10-5-1) and Nogueira (12-2), as well as, Bellator newcomer Rodrigo Lima (9-0).
Bellator’s upcoming season will begin on March 2nd and will be broadcast live on MTV 2.
