Anthony Hernandez “Knew” He’d Submit Decorated Grappler, Rodolfo Vieira

Following his shocking, submission win over Rodolfo Vieira at UFC 258, Anthony Hernandez is claiming he knew he’d tap-out the renowned, jiu-jitsu champ.
Heading into Saturday’s event, Hernandez was a considerable underdog on the betting lines. Vieira, who has won multiple world championships in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling, had gone 7-0 in pro-MMA.
Vieira threatened with various submission attempts in the opening round. But, by round two, the Brazilian was exhausted, and Hernandez battered him with strikes. The latter ultimately ended the fight with an arm-in, guillotine choke.
While speaking to the media, Hernandez had this to say about his massive win (quotes via MMA Junkie).
“I knew I was going to tap him out,” Hernandez said. “I told my coaches in the beginning. They said not to do it, but it happened.”
“Honestly, I don’t really follow fighting like that (or) jiu-jitsu and (expletive),” Hernandez said. “So that really doesn’t mean too much to me. I guess it’s a big deal. A fight is a fight. When you can hit someone, (expletive) changes. It’s not jiu-jitsu. … I plan to make more history, so it’s (expletive) awesome to hear that news. It’s just the beginning.”
With his victory on Saturday, the 27-year-old Hernandez moved his record to 8-2.
