BAMMA 30: Shay Walsh vs Alan Philpott Set For BW Title

By Press Release

[London 16.05.17] A huge World title fight is headed to Dublin at BAMMA 30 as the vacant Bantamweight title is set to be given a new owner, as Shay Walsh will battle to regain the title against another former title contender in the shape of Alan ‘The Apprentice’ Philpott.

After two division champion Tom ‘Firekid’ DuQuesnoy vacated the titles earlier this year, the two names that everyone suggested should face each other for the title, were the last two men that DuQuesnoy defeated.

Shay Walsh and Alan Philpott agreed and have been engaging in an online war of the words ever since.  Now the time for talk is over as two of Europe’s leading Bantamweights are set to finally do battle in the 3 Arena at BAMMA 30.  Can the former champion regain ‘his’ title or has Philpott’s time finally arrived?

“Regaining my BAMMA world title is my number one goal, none of these bantamweights can stop me achieving that. Alan Philpott is standing in my way and he will be dealt with. My momentum and confidence are sky high at the minute, this is the perfect time to remind everyone of the level I’m operating at and be reunited with my belt!” – Shay Walsh

“He’s had his time, he’s slowing down, and I’m only getting started. I’m too fast on a bad day, on a good day he doesn’t stand a chance. No one in the division is ready for what’s coming. A new king is rising. ” – Alan ‘The Apprentice’ Philpott

Additional Info

Shay Walsh (16-4) jumps straight back into fight camp after his victorious efforts at BAMMA 29.  The Lancashire MMA / Tiger Muay Thai fighter is at the final stage of his mission to reclaim the BAMMA Bantamweight title that he first won at BAMMA 23 against Ed ‘King’ Arthur.  Now on a 2 fight win streak he takes that momentum into this showdown in Dublin. Alan ‘The Apprentice’ Philpott (16-9) current Lonsdale title holder also holds a recent victory over Walsh’s last opponent Aaron ‘Smackwell’ Blackwell at BAMMA 26.  The man who the former champion Duquesnoy claimed ‘gave me the toughest fight of my career’ is out to complete his journey to the gold. Despite falling at the final hurdle twice, he’s learned so much since then and is now a more complete fighter.  Splitting his training between Aspire Combat Sport Academy Liverpool & Next Gen Northern Ireland, Philpott intends to prove to the World that the performance against DuQuesnoy was not a one off.
