Bellator 216: Cheick Kongo Delivers Warning to Ryan Bader, Following Win Over Vitaly Minakov
By FCF Staff
Following his pivotal, upset win over Vitaly Minakov last night at Bellator 216, Cheick Kongo delivered a fiery warning to the promotion’s champ-champ, Ryan Bader.
Minakov returned to the Bellator cage last night for the first time since 2014, and proceeded to drop a tightly contested, decision loss to Kongo. Since Minakov never lost Bellator’s heavyweight title in the cage, but was stripped of the belt after a contract dispute, Kongo is expected to face the champion Bader next.
During the post-fight press conference, Kongo directed the following comments Bader’s way (quotes via MMA Junkie):
“I had a great performance and I just beat the undefeated (former) champion, Vitaly Minakov,” Kongo said. “So the question is: Where’s my belt? Somebody used to hold my belt. The belt wasn’t made with heavyweights, but just light heavyweights.
“So I want to say something clear: Ryan, wherever you are, just come to give me the belt so I can make it easy for you. If not, I will (expletive) you up.”
With last night’s win, the 43-year-old Kongo (30-10-2) extended his winning streak to eight.
