Bellator 69: Maiquel Falcao Takes Season Six Middleweight Tourney
By FCF Staff
Despite losing a point for an illegal knee strike in round one, Maiquel Falcao controlled and battered Andreas Spang tonight to win Bellator’s Season Six middleweight tournament in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Although Spang appeared to stun Falcao early on with strikes, the powerful middleweight quickly recovered and began controlling the fight through his clinch work and punishing top game.
During an exchange along the cage fence, Falcao struck Spang in the head with a knee, while the fighter had three points touching the ground. After Spang took a few minutes to recover, Falcao was deducted a point for the infraction.
In the end, Falcao was awarded a 29-27 score from all three judges to secure a $100,000 check and a bout with Alexander Shlemenko, which will determine Bellator’s middleweight champion.
