Bellator is reporting that the new “Powerlock” glove the promotion designed in collaboration with sporting goods giant Everlast, has been reducing hand injuries.

The promotion began using the new glove at Bellator 110, and according to a press release, no fighters have incurred a hand injury since. During Bellator’s eighth season, however, eight fighters suffered broken hands, and during the promotion’s ninth season, seven fighters incurred breaks.

According to the promotion, the new glove:

“…promotes proper hand form and technique, which can help to reduce the risk of face, hand and wrist injuries by introducing a curved striking surface that aides proper hand form, along with a redesigned foam to maximize hand protection on the impact zone and additional padding that shields the first and fifth metacarpals, two of the most commonly injured bones of the hand.”

Bellator’s next event takes place tonight at the Casino Rama, in Ontario, Canada.
