Bellator Fighting Championships has added another notable prospect to its roster, as today the promotion announced that it has signed former 2008 U.S. Greco-Roman Olympic Team alternate Shanon Slack.
Slack, who has gone 3-0 to date in MMA and trains with the renowned Black House team, will make his Bellator debut May 18th versus Booker Arthur (2-1).
“The Bellator featherweight division is tough as hell, and it was a huge reason why I decided to join Bellator,” Slack was quoted saying in a press release from the promotion. “The tournament format is something that really stood out to me as well. There aren’t any politics involved, and like any fighter, I want my title shot. Any fighter can say they want to take things one fight at a time, but if you aren’t in this to become a champion, then you’re in the wrong sport.”
The featherweight is also one of Dominick Cruz’s assistant coaches on the current season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”
“I’ve been around for a while, and now I feel like I’m on a stage where I can showcase my skillset, and everything I bring to the table,” Slack said. “After talking to everyone with Bellator, the organization really seemed like the best fit for me, and I can’t wait to get into the cage.”
“When you look at the roster, you’ve seen former wrestlers have an incredible amount of success with Bellator,” said Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Michael Chandler, Ben Askren, and Cole Konrad have all earned titles with a core wrestling base, and Shanon brings that same pedigree into the organization.”
The May 18th, Bellator card will be hosted by the L’Auberge Casino Resort in Louisiana.
The night’s main card will be broadcast live on MTV 2 and the preliminary bouts will be streamed at Spike.com.
