Bellator’s Rebney Blasts UFC And White For “Tasteless Comments” About GSP

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney

By FCF Staff

2013 was marked by several heated exchanges between Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney and UFC President Dana White, and it looks like 2014 isn’t going to be much different.

During a media call on Monday, Rebney reportedly weighed in on the recent comments White directed at Georges St. Pierre. Last week, the former welterweight champ revealed that the UFC’s stance on WADA certified drug testing, influenced his decision to vacate the title.

White criticized St. Pierre for not talking to him “face-to-face” about the issue, and insinuated the comments could be motivated by the fact he believes Johny Hendricks defeated GSP at UFC 167.

White also took issue with St. Pierre’s assertion that the UFC constitutes a monopoly, and pointed to the market value of Bellator’s parent company Viacom, as evidence to the contrary.

According to report from MMA Junkie.com, here is some of what Rebney had to say about White’s response to St. Pierre:

“The UFC set the bar pretty high in terms of tasteless comments, but their recent comments about GSP are probably, in my mind, the most tasteless comments they’ve made in sometime.”

Rebney also credited St. Pierre for the stance he’s taken regarding drug testing and noted “I put a lot of credence and credibility in what he’s talking about.”

Like the UFC, Bellator’s drug tests are overseen by the various athletic commissions the promotion deals with throughout the year.
