Brian Ortega Comments on UFC 303 Withdrawal
By FCF Staff
Following Brian Ortega’s late withdrawal from UFC 303, the longtime contender has released a statement regarding what transpired.
Ortega and Diego Lopes agreed to fight at the June 29th card, approximately just two weeks before the event was scheduled to take place. Hours before the fighters were expected to weigh-in, it was revealed the fight was going to take place at lightweight rather than featherweight, on account of issues Ortega was having with his weight cut.
Not long before the main card began, however, it was announced Ortega had withdrawn due to illness. Dan Ige ultimately agreed to fight Lopes on a few hours’ notice and lost the contest via decision.
More recently, the 33-year-old Ortega released the statement below via social media.
Ortega (16-3), who previously had said he was planning a move to lightweight, is coming off a submission win over Yair Rodríguez in February.
