Now that Brian Ortega has defeated Chan Sung Jung, it looks like he’ll be next for UFC featherweight champ, Alexander Volkanovski. But, ‘T-City’ also sees a rematch with Max Holloway in his future as well.
Ortega battled Jung at UFC Fight Island 6 on Saturday, and out struck the dangerous fighter for a clear cut, decision win. Leading up to the event, UFC President Dana White said the winner of Ortega – Jung would advance to face Volkanovski.
After the impressive win, Ortega had this to say about Holloway and his future, while talking with the media (quotes via MMA Junkie).
“I said this in the beginning, in the very, very beginning when the fight was first set up: ‘We will meet again.’ He’s going to stay at the top,” Ortega said. “He’s not just a guy that’s going to drop right off the bat and just spiral down his career. I’m not a guy that’s going to just fall off like that. Clearly, tonight, I showed the world that’s not me.
“He’s going to stay on top. I’m going to be on the top. Volkanovski’s going to be on the top. Believe me. We’re going to have some rounds with all of us. We’re going to keep you guys entertained.”
On Saturday, Ortega was fighting for the first time since he lost via doctor stoppage to Holloway in December, 2018.
“It would just look different,” said Ortega, while talking about how a rematch with Holloway would go. “I’m not here to promote anything and say this or that. I just know I’m a better fighter than I was when I fought him and it would go a lot different.”
With this weekend’s win, the 29-year-old Ortega’s record now stands at 15-1.
