Carlos Ulberg on Potential Fight With Alex Pereira: “Soon I’ll Get my Chance”
By FCF Staff
Carlos Ulberg understands he has some work to do before a title fight with Alex Pereira is possible. But, the rising light-heavyweight believes he’s not far off from facing the UFC champ.
Ulberg (10-1) is currently ranked #10 in the UFC’s light-heavyweight division and is booked to fight the #6 ranked Volkan Oezdemir on November 23rd. Recently, the New Zealand fighter spoke with Sky Sport New Zealand. Ulberg noted he thinks he could face Pereira soon, on account of the fact, Khalil Rountree Jr. was booked to challenge “Poatan” (quotes via MMA Junkie.com).
“I’ve been studying Alex for a while now. He’s at the top and he’s the prime right now,” Ulberg said. “He’s definitely someone that everyone’s keeping an eye on, so knowing that he’s got a high fight IQ, it is always good to sit back and see how he operates in the octagon.
“I’m coming up, and soon I’ll get my chance. … Once I get through Oezdemir, which is going to be a hard task for sure, it’s free rein from there and it’ll give me the opportunity to go for the light heavyweight title. As you’ve seen the No. 8 who’s just fought for the light heavyweight title, at any given time we’re going to be called up for that.”
Ulberg is coming off a first-round knockout of Alonzo Menifield and has gone 6-1 to date in the UFC.
Rountree Jr. was stopped by Pereira in the fourth round of their UFC 307 bout, which took place on October 5th.
