After Chan Sung Jung took out Frankie Edgar earlier this month, he called for a bout with Alexander Volkanovski. As it turns out, “The Korean Zombie” also believes he’s a tougher test for the new featherweight champ than Max Holloway.

Jung (16-5), who finished Edgar with punches in the opening round at UFC Busan, recently spoke with MMA Fighting. While discussing Volkanovski and his hope to fight the new champ, Jung said this:

“I’m eager to know when he will be back,” Jung said, while referencing the fact Volkanovski broke his hand in his decision win over Holloway at UFC 245. “I think I’d be able to beat Volkanovski easier than Holloway could.”

“I had this thought in the back of my head where, ‘If I were to knock Frankie out, I’d have the right to call Volkanovski out.’ Then it happened way too soon during the first round, and without hesitation, I called him out.”

Prior to facing Edgar, Jung quickly stopped Renato “Moicano” in June, which followed his late, knockout loss to Yair Rodriguez in November, 2018.

Holloway (21-5) had won 14 straight featherweight bouts before fighting Volkanovski (21-1).
