Chatri Sityodtong Says ONE Championship Intends to Make “Big Splash” in U.S., NYC Possible For U.S. Debut

ONE Championship has promoted events throughout Asia to date, but the company is planning to hold an event in the U.S. sometime next year. In addition, recently ONE’s CEO Chatri Sityodtong stated the promotion has big plans for the American market.
ONE officials have confirmed to MMA Junkie that the Asia based promotion intends to hold a card in the U.S. in 2020, and New York City is a possible host city. The report also includes the following quote from Sityodtong, who recently told CBS Sports the following:
“We definitely want to make a big splash in the U.S. and we believe that we have the right product, the right brand and the right values with the right heroes and stories to (do so).”
“I think Eddie (Alvarez), ‘D.J.’ (Demetrious Johnson) and Sage (Northcutt) all came over for the right reasons. They came over because they wanted to join a global promotion that treats athletes with love and respect, a global promotion that treats athletes as athletes, a global promotion that pays top dollar and a global promotion that has the biggest viewership base per event. With all those things put together, why wouldn’t you want to join the biggest stage in global martial arts and get paid top dollar for a promotion who only speaks well of you and doesn’t trashtalk you and is there to do good things in the world?”
The news comes not long after ONE announced that it is opening offices in New York and Los Angeles.
