FCF:   What rank are you in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Rogerio Nogueira: Black belt.

FCF:   How did you get started in Jiu-Jitsu?
RN:     My brother started doing well in tournaments, and I started about a year after him.

FCF:   Not all Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stylists fight in MMA. Why did you decide to step into the ring?
RN:     In Bahia, where I come from, boxing is actually more popular than Jiu-Jitsu. So, I’ve done more than just Jiu-Jitsu.

FCF:   Do you plan on making MMA a career?
RN:     Yes, that’s what I intend to do.

FCF:   Did you get along with your twin brother growing up?
RN:     We started training together very early (laughs).

FCF:   Rodrigo is a good boxer. Is your boxing near his level?
RN:     Yes, we’re at about the same level.

FCF:   How does your overall style compare to Rodrigo’s?
RN:     Rodrigo has more experience. I want to get more fights and gain more confidence.

FCF:   What is a normal day of training like, from waking in the morning to going to bed at night?
RN:     I get up in the morning at 10. I do my physical workout in the morning from 10 to 11. I’m at the school practicing at 11. Three days a week I do cardiovascular and two days a week I wrestle in the morning. At 2:30 in the afternoon, I do Jiu-Jitsu until 3:30. At 6 o’clock I do Muay Thai until 9.

FCF:   Does your Muay Thai training include sparring or just working the pads?
RN:     I do both technique and sparring.

FCF:   What do you know about your opponent, Jim Theobald?
RN:     He’s a pretty good boxer.

FCF:   Who have you been training with for this fight?
RN:     Boca (Oliveira), Dustin Denes, Rodrigo, and Luis Alves for Muay Thai.

FCF:   Would you rather fight from your back or on top?
RN:     I like the guard; it’s a good position for me.

FCF:   How do you feel before a fight?
RN:     Normal. I’m calm.

FCF:   What should fans expect to see in your North American debut?
RN:     They should expect a technical fight. I know my opponent has come to fight also, and I expect it to be a good fight.

FCF:   Who will be in your corner?
RN:     Rodrigo and Luis Alves.

FCF:   Where do you see yourself in a year?
RN:     Probably in Pride.

FCF:   Is there anyone in particular you want to fight?
RN:     Alex Stiebling. Because he says he is the "Brazilian Killa." I am going to get revenge.

FCF:   Who is better looking, you or Rogerio?
Rodrigo Nogueira: I am (laughs).

FCF:   What can fans expect from your brother?
RN:     He’s improved a lot standing up and his submissions…I’m willing to bet he’ll submit (Theobald).

FCF:   Did you expect to be on top of the MMA world this quick?
RN:     In the beginning, after my first four or five fights, I started to see that I could use my submission skills. I knew that was hard, and then I just managed to get on top.

FCF:   Which bout do you consider your toughest fight?
RN:     Against Heath Herring.

FCF:   You’ve recently said that you wanted to fight K-1 fighters. Why?
RN:     There’s a lot of comments in Japan that more K-1 fighters are going to fight (MMA fighters). But they don’t want to fight under Vale Tudo rules. I’m proposing they do one fight under K-1 rules, one fight under Vale Tudo rules.

FCF:   Are you saying that you’d be willing to fight a kickboxer under K-1 rules?
RN:     Yes, of course.

FCF:   Is there a particular K-1 fighter that you want to fight?
RN:     Mark Hunt (K-1 World Grand Prix 2001 winner) or Cro Cop (Mirko Filipovic).

FCF:   Is there a chance that you’ll fight in the United States anytime soon?
RN:     Not before November.

FCF:   How would you fight Randy Couture in a hypothetical UFC-Pride heavyweight championship unification bout?
RN:     I would fight him anyway he wanted. I would fight him standup or on the mat; it doesn’t matter.

FCF:   What is next for you?
RN:     I defend my title on the 28th of April — against Semmy Schilt or Don Frye.
