Cris “Cyborg” Says Dana White Should “Respect Everyone”, Hold Off on Holding UFC Cards During Pandemic
By FCF Staff
As Dana White and the UFC continue to move forward with plans to hold events during the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Cris “Cyborg” says the promotion should stand down for now.
In recent weeks, White has repeatedly insisted that the UFC will find a way to hold events, despite the various restrictions that have been enacted due to the pandemic. Most recently, White has said the UFC plans to hold an event on May 9th, and he’s talked about the company hosting shows on a private island.
“Cyborg” appeared on a recent episode of The No-Sports Report with Jensen Karp, and while talking about the UFC’s plans, the Bellator champ said this (quotes via MMA Junkie).
“Everybody has to be quarantined. It’s the rules for everyone. You know a lot of people don’t want to be home. A lot of people are struggling now, and I think he personally should do something (other) than just think about himself and boxing and MMA fights. … I think it’s better to wait, like everyone – respect everyone.
“Even though the fighters have to be together for training, you could say, ‘OK, I’m going to make an event now.’ Do you think if you (did) say, ‘OK, Cris, you’re going to have a fight,’ I’m going to have to make my team?” Cyborg said. “You know, I have to put my team together. We are going to be together, training. Then you put the risk of the family around you. You know, I think you had to wait and have respect for the process. Be patient.”
White has also repeatedly said the UFC will take additional steps to help ensure the health and safety of everyone tied to the events. But to date, no extensive details regarding those plans have been released.
