Cruz to Defend Against Johnson, Faber to Fight Bowles
By FCF Staff
The wave of fight confirmations for the UFC fall schedule is continuing, as the promotion has announced that bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will look to defend his title against Demetrious Johnson, at the October 1st, UFC Live on Versus 6 event.
In addition, the UFC has confirmed that former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber (pictured) will take on former WEC bantamweight title holder Brian Bowles at UFC 139.
Cruz (18-1) recently avenged a 2007 loss to Faber by working his way to a unanimous decision win over the veteran at UFC 132 earlier this month. The bantamweight champ has won nine straight fights.
Johnson (9-1) has worked his way into a title shot by winning four straight, which includes victories over former WEC champ Miguel Torres and Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto.
The UFC Live on Versus 6 card will be hosted by The Verizon Center in Washington D.C.
The aforementioned loss to Cruz came after Faber (25-5) scored back-to-back wins over Takeya Mizugaki and Eddie Wineland. Faber has now gone 3-2 in his last five fights.
Bowles (10-1) has earned victories over Damacio Page and the aforementioned Mizugaki, since he was unable to continue due to injury when he faced Cruz at WEC 47 in March, 2010.
The date and location for UFC 139 has not yet been made official, but it is expected to take place November 19th in San Jose, California.
