Cung Le Still Recovering From Elbow Surgery, Says Bout With Anderson Silva Would Be “Fun Fight”

Tonight’s UFC on FOX 7 card may seem somewhat incomplete for San Jose fans, due to the fact that the city’s own, Cung Le, is not on the card. The 40 year-old-middleweight is still recovering from surgeries to remove bone spurs from his elbow, following his memorable knockout win over Rich Franklin in November.
Recently Le relayed to Full Contact Fighter that his return date remains up in the air due to the injury, however, the renowned striker and successful actor is expected to fight again. In fact, at a fan Q&A session this week in San Jose, Le stated that he’s interested in fighting middleweight champ Anderson Silva.
“Recently, I didn’t throw my name in the hat, but Anderson Silva’s camp said I would be a worthy opponent,” Le said according to MMA Junkie.com. “Of course, he’s pound-for-pound the greatest, and just to be inside the octagon with him would be an honor for me. And I think matchup-wise, my standup is pretty good, and his standup is really high-level. I think that would be a very fun fight not only for myself but for the fans.”
Le went on to add that although he’d probably head to the hospital after facing Silva for “some stitches”, and that Silva might beat him “9 times of out of 10”, “anything can happen”. Prior to stopping Franklin, Le (9-2) scored a unanimous decision win over Patrick Cote, which followed his stoppage loss to Wanderlei Silva in 2011.
Silva is scheduled to fight Chris Weidman at UFC 162 on July 6th.
