Dana White: Derrick Lewis Isn’t “Going Anywhere”, Despite Latest Defeat
By FCF Staff
Although Derrick Lewis was defeated for the third time in a row on Saturday night, it sounds like the feared striker doesn’t have to worry about his job security.
Lewis faced Serghei Spivac in the headliner of UFC Vegas 68, and was submitted shortly after the three minute mark. The loss followed stoppage losses to Sergei Pavlovich and Tai Tuivasa, and Lewis has now lost four of his last five fights.
But, while discussing Lewis and his future after Saturday’s card, UFC President Dana White was quick to praise the heavyweight (quotes via MMA Junkie).
“I have a lot of respect for Derrick Lewis,” White said. “I love the guy, and he got manhandled tonight. Spivac looked really good. He made a big statement tonight.”
“(It doesn’t hurt his stock) with me. I love the guy. I love him. So he’s not going anywhere.”
The 37-year-old Lewis currently carries a record of 26-11. Heading into this weekend’s action, Lewis was ranked #7 in the UFC’s heavyweight division.
