After repeatedly saying for months that the UFC will be able to sign a bout between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, it sounds like Dana White is finally preparing to move on if needed.

For months, there’s been extensive talk and speculation about whether Jones will sign the dotted line to face Aspinall. The heavyweight champ has consistently argued he does not need to fight Aspinall to enhance his legacy, and Jones has also repeatedly acknowledged he could retire.

More recently, White was a guest on the “The Jim Rome Show”. While discussing the Jones – Aspinall bout, the UFC CEO reported that the promotion is getting ready to move on (quotes via MMA Junkie.com).

“We’ll see how this thing plays out over the next couple of weeks,” White said. “If we can’t get this fight done, we’ll move on quickly. … We’ll have answers in the next couple weeks.”

Jones (28-1), who will turn 38 next month, has fought only once since he won the vacated heavyweight title in March, 2023, by submitting Ciryl Gane. Last November, he defended the title by stopping former champ, Stipe Miocic.

The 32-year-old Aspinall (15-3), meanwhile, is now the longest-serving interim champ in UFC history. Aspinwall won the interim belt by knocking out Sergei Pavlovich in November, 2023, and he defended it last July by taking out Curtis Blaydes.
