Dana White: Report of Conor McGregor – Floyd Mayweather Bout is “Not True”
By FCF Staff
Following a British tabloid story, which claims boxing star Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are on the verge of signing to fight, UFC President Dana White has shot down the report.
The Sun recently reported that Mayweather is coming out of retirement and that a boxing match with McGregor is likely for this summer. White, however, has told Yahoo Sports the following:
“It’s not true; it’s just a tabloid story,” White said. “And as far as I knew, Floyd is retired and he’s been on a world-wide vacation and hasn’t even been thinking of fighting.”
McGregor is currently under contract with the UFC, and as a result, he would need permission to compete outside of the promotion’s banner. The featherweight champ was scheduled to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 200, however, he was pulled from the card after refusing to commit to all of the event’s media obligations.
