Dana White Says Colby Covington Will Need to Win Again, Before Fighting For Title
By FCF Staff
Recently Colby Covington has been blasting the UFC and Dana White for the promotion’s decision to hand Kamaru Usman a title shot, before him. Now, White’s said that the former welterweight interim champ will not be able to sit out and wait for his crack at the title. like some have speculated would be the case.
After Covington won the interim title last summer, by defeating Rafael dos Anjos, a showdown with reigning champ and rival, Tyron Woodley, appeared to be next. But, due to pending nasal surgery, Covington did not agree to fight Woodley in September. More recently, it was reported the UFC asked Covington to fight Usman in January, but “Chaos” declined.
Now Usman is going to face Woodley at UFC 235, March 2nd. Following a press conference for the event, White sat down with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and he said this about Covington (quote via MMA Junkie):
“Colby now is going to have to fight again and earn the spot to get back.”
After news of Woodley – Usman being booked surfaced, Covington essentially dared White to release him from his UFC contract.
