Although it remains to be seen if and when Khabib Nurmagmedov and Tony Ferguson fight, recently Dana White acknowledged that the latter deserves to fight for the title next.

Since Nurmagomedov submitted Conor McGregor in October, there’s been extensive speculation about who the UFC’s lightweight champ will take on next. Some observers speculated that an immediate rematch with McGregor would materialize, due to how much revenue it would generate. But, Nurmagomedov has argued that the former champ doesn’t deserve a rematch.

White has said in the past that he thinks Ferguson is most deserving of a title shot, and recently he told MMA Junkie this:

“Of course Tony deserves it,” White said. “He’s the No. 1 contender. He’s the guy. That’s the fight.”

Ferguson is currently riding an 11 fight winning streak, and most recently the former interim champ stopped Anthony Pettis (via corner stoppage) in October.
