Dana White Says Vitor Belfort Passed on Interim Title Fight With Lyoto Machida

The UFC is looking to book another opponent for Vitor Belfort, now that Chris Weidman can’t compete on February 28th, after withdrawing due to a rib injury. Well, according to Dana White, the middleweight contender has passed on an interim title fight with Lyoto Machida.
While talking to FOX Sports 1, White revealed that Machida agreed to fight Belfort at UFC 184, but that the latter declined. In a report from MMA Junkie.com, White claimed that Belfort contacted him about having the UFC set up an interim title fight for February 28th.
But, White claims Belfort’s camp wasn’t interested in facing Machida, and that they’ve elected to wait for Weidman’s return. The UFC President has also reportedly said he has one more proposal for Belfort.
Machida is currently scheduled to fight Luke Rockhold at UFC on FOX 15 on April 18th. Weidman hasn’t fought now since last July, when he decisioned Machida at UFC 175.
