Dana White Still Hoping to Book Rory MacDonald-Robbie Lawler
By FCF Staff
After Rory MacDonald scored a unanimous decision win over Jake Ellenberger at UFC on FOX 8, Dana White said he was interested in having the rising welterweight battle Robbie Lawler next, and the UFC President repeated this weekend that’s still the plan.
Speaking after Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 26 card, White was asked whether the proposed bout was going to happen, and he responded “We like that fight. I think so yeah.” The ZUFFA executive added, however, that no location or date has been set.
MacDonald (15-1) has been open about the fact that he’s hoping to rematch Carlos Condit, who’s the only fighter to date that has defeated the Tristar fighter. Condit is set to fight Martin Kampmann at UFC FN 27 on August 28th.
White proposed a Lawler-MacDonald fight after UFC on FOX 8, due to the conservative pace of MacDonald’s fight with Ellenberger that was widely criticized. Lawler (21-9) fought that same night and knocked out Bobby Voelker in the second round. The punishing striker scored a stoppage win over Josh Koscheck in his UFC return, which took place in February.
