Cody Garbrandt continues to battle a back injury as a July 8th bout with TJ Dillashaw nears, but UFC President Dana White believes the bantamweight champ will be ready to compete at the upcoming card.
Recently Garbrandt revealed that he “tore” his back and that stem cell therapy hadn’t helped. As a result, the UFC is sending the champ to a renowned, medical facility in Germany. While discussing Garbrandt’s condition and treatment, White told the media this (quote via MMA Junkie):
“No, it’s not off,” White said, while discussing Garbrandt – Dillashaw. “Cody Garbrandt is having back issues, and we sent him to a place for (stem cell treatment), and apparently, that didn’t work. So we’re putting him on a plane and sending him to that place in Germany that I go to.
“…“But I know the credentials of these guys in Germany, and I’m 100 percent confident he will be better and he will fight on July 8.”
White also reported that Dillashaw has contacted him, and has said he’s interested in moving down to 125 to face Demetrious Johnson. The UFC President made it clear he’s interested in the possibility of that fight, but the flyweight champ told MMA Fighting he believes other flyweights are more deserving of a title shot.
