Daniel Cormier Weighs-in on “Bad Blood” Fight Between Dricus Du Plessis & Israel Adesanya
By FCF Staff
Dricus Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya have been feuding for months, ahead of their UFC 305 bout, and Daniel Cormier believes the match-up is a compelling one on several fronts.
Not only have Adesanya (24-3) and Du Plessis (21-2) traded verbal shots over comments the latter made about his status as an African champion, he’s also claimed”The Last Stylebender” isn’t as committed to fighting. After Adesanya lost to Sean Strickland last September, he announced he was taking a break from competing.
Recently, Cormier discussed the highly anticipated fight while appearing on “The Fighter vs. The Writer”. While doing so, the legend outlined why he’s excited to see the fight (quotes via MMA Fighting.com).
“He (Adesanya) don’t want to lose to that dude. He don’t want to lose to Dricus. I love how intense it gets between these guys.
“I like bad blood fights. That’s my thing. I’m not going to lie to you, I love when it’s a bad blood fight, and this one has all the shit that I love. Those guys hate each other.”
And while discussing claims Du Plessis has made about Adesanya’s current motivation and abilities, “DC” noted:
“I think Dricus is almost betting on him not being [the same guy he was before]. He said it on Countdown. He said, ‘He’s a tremendous fighter but his light is dimming … his light is dimming if it isn’t completely out [already].’ F*cking Dricus du Plessis said that about Izzy.”
“It’s on Izzy to show that’s not the case. It’s [up to him to say], ‘I’m still here and I’m still the man.”
Before facing Strickland, Adesanya reclaimed the middleweight title from Alex Pereira in April, 2023, via a knockout win.
Du Plessis, meanwhile, was tapped to fight Strickland for the belt after stopping former champ, Robert Whittaker in July, 2023.
UFC 305 is taking place on August 17th in Perth, Australia.
