David Benavidez Battles Through Knockdown, Outscores David Morrell Jr.

David Benavidez faced some adversity in his grudge match with David Morrell Jr. on Saturday. But, it is “The Mexican Monster”, ultimately, who remains undefeated.
Benavidez was knocked down by Morrell Jr. in the eleventh round of the contest, but it was too little too late for the Cuban fighter. Benavidez was awarded the bout via scores of 115-111, 115-111 and 118-108.
Morrell Jr. was also deducted a point in the eleventh round for hitting Benavidez after the bell.
With the win, the 28-year-old Benavidez moved his record to 30-0 and he secured the WBA light-heavyweight title. The American already held the interim WBC light-heavyweight crown.
The 27-year-old Morrell, meanwhile, saw his record fall to 11-1.
